All-State Weekend!

Feb 16-19.

So..
On Thursday, I went to my first and second period. Math was completely horrible. And in second period, I went to history, instead of English, so like yeah. Saw Vivian and she was like “What the heck! Why are you here?” After second period, I went to the front of the school and met up with Mrs. Yan and Mrs. Pang! Then saw Mr. Lee, then we all went to Rory’s house.
YAY FOR AWKWARD CAR RIDES. It’s like.. “So, how’s the weather?” like every. 10 minutes or something. lol In n’ out for lunch, then FINALLY ARRIVED AT ALL STATE! Checked in, called Cathy, and met my roommates! Maya and Alexie are very nice.

Right after we unpacked, we had to go audition. Oh my god. I waited 3 hours. Darn my last name, being at the end of the alphabet. WELL. My audition sucked. My sight reading was a mess, and they only tested the first and second excerpt. I mean, it was a really good experience. Blind audition!
We had tacos for dinner, then we went to go watch the CSU Long Beach + Dallas Brass concert. HOOOOOOLY CRAP DALLAS BRASS IS SOOOOOO AMAZING. They make me want to learn a brass instrument. I really never knew how beautiful a brass instrument could sound until I listened to them.. I mean, I never really had a liking towards brass instruments :l but after that concert, it was like damn. what the hell. my mind is blown. standing ovations like, every single song! I wish I bought their album.

After the concert, we all went back to the hotel and then audition results were posted! I kind of got what I expected, so it’s all good. I got a papercut from the concert program :( but Rory gave me a bandaid that said ‘ouch’ on it! ^_^ Thanks Rory. RORY IS A PRINCESS. I have to open all the doors for her, and carry her, and everything! I vooooow to do so.
I went back to my room and I read all night, until like 2AM.

Friday, we all woke up at 6:45! Had breakfast, then went to rehearsal. The girl next to me lives in Irvine! We met our conductor, and he’s a pretty cool person. He says things like “mama chicken” and whatever. LOL Ahaha he’s really funny, I mean. I like his mustache. :-{)
THE SONGS. I hated Nitro at first, and I loved La Mezquita! Ave Maria sounded really nice, kind of? ahaha. and Kitty Hawk was just wow. We rehearsed for a really long time, then finally lunch! then more rehearsals, then dinner! I LOVE PASTA. THE CONVENTION EXPO. I WISH I WENT. OMGGGGGG. T_T WHY DID I JUST GO TAKE A NAP. WHY!
Second concert! ALL-STATE JAZZ BAND AND JAZZ VOCAL CHOIR. Amazing, oh my gosh! I can’t even begin to describe it. I can’t believe these people are all high school students. They’re so good, it’s scary. I wish I could listen to them again. WASIANS. =) ahahaha.
Ice cream party after! Got cookies and cream for the first time, it’s really good! We all stood in a circle. For the past like four days, I’ve been hanging out with no one but Saratoga kids. It was pretty scary, because I didn’t know anyone.
Went upstairs, watched TV with my roommates, then read some more and went to sleep!

Saturday, we all woke up at 6:45 again, but I didn’t have rehearsal until 9 and IT FELT SO GOOD. We got breakfast and I ate with Desmond! He like, barely ate.. OH. and I made fun of Emily a lot. She’s so nice! I love talking to her. :)
Rehearsal was a lot more productive than it was on Friday. The songs even started to sound better, because everyone got them down. Rehearsal ended at 5… really long rehearsals :( But I went back to my room and got ready for the banquet! I was the only one in my room who wore a skirt.. -___-
I went with Emily down and I sat next to her ~ then left so someone else could sit there, and sat with my roommates instead! I SAT NEXT TO RORY :D Justin’s really nice too!
We went to the concert, and it was the all-state junior high bands. They’re really good! I wish people wouldn’t just say they’re good for their age, or they’re impressive only because they’re in 7th or 8th grade or something. I think they’re good, just in general! I mean, their age isn’t that far off from ours. And also, the symphonic band played dusk. LOL They sounded better than honor band I think :c qq
Went back to the hotel, walked with Desmond up the stairs. WHY IS MY ROOM ON THE 8TH FLOOR. Got some ice with Alexie too. That ice machine is whack.  But then we all just like, went to sleep really early. I finished my books anyway this weekend, so my goal was complete! I haven’t read for fun in so long, it was really nice to do.

SUNDAY. the day is here! =) We all woke up at 6:45 again, got breakfast downstairs. we were the only ones there! Then we went back upstairs, but I mean, Cathy and I didn’t have to get ready until 10. I went back to sleep while Alexie and Cathy were watching TV and Maya was getting ready. I texted Desmond to record their songs for me, BUT HE FORGOT. T_T
We all got dressed, went to dress rehearsal, then went to the concert! I wish I could have listened to the wind symphony. I talked to Cheryl after though, she said she thinks they did well.
OH MAN. BRYAN. 1st chair trumpet. I don’t even know what the heck he did, but he was like jumping down the stairs right before rehearsal, and he fell and split his head on the stairwell. So like, his head had a GIANT CUT and he was bleeding insanely. But he still went to the concert and played his solo… mad props. LOL but he had a bandage on the whole time, and he felt dizzy. He went to the ER afterwards! But no stitches necessary. What a trooper!
WELL the concert was pretty good, I think. :) I got to talk to Chris too! He’s so nice. GULLIVER IS SO FUNNY. Man. I don’t understand which movie he was talking about or which scene, but he couldn’t stop laughing. Gulliver pinky promised me too!
I met up with May afterwards, and I went home to her, and we just talked all the way on the ride back. Time seems to fly by really fast.

This past weekend, I don’t think I’ve ever been surrounded by so much music, or by such passionate musicians. Like honestly, I wish I was a better musician this weekend. Being placed in concert band isn’t horrible or anything, but the fact that there’s only 3 bands hurts your self esteem a bit. However, just making it into all-state this year made me very happy, and I’m glad I got to experience this whole event, this past weekend.
The people are amazing, and it’s so easy to connect to these people. The first thing you ask someone when you meet them: name, instrument, school. Auto conversation starters! I wish I had the courage to talk to more people though, and got to know them.

I’m so happy I did this, and that I got in this year. I hope next year, I can do the same. I had a very fun time, and it definitely made me want to try harder with music. :) Thanks guys, for all the support.
